I think back to when I first started up my 75 gallon aquarium. I’ve learned a lot since then. I observed a lot of fish behavior and have gotten a feel for when they are stressed or not.
Usually when I do an upgrade to the aquarium, such as add live rock, add better lighting or improve other facets of the tank, I see a reaction from the fish. They always like it when I add new live rock. The grazers like to eat bits of whatever is attached to the live rock. The others like to swim through the new structure.
But, there is one thing my fish like even more than the live rock additions to the aquarium. What is that?
Great water circulation.
Once I started adding some extra Koralia powerheads to the aquarium, I noticed the fish were a lot more active and lively. The natural water currents gave them a reason to swim around the tank rather than float lazily about.
The water currents also help to distrubute food throughout the tank, so it’s not such a crowded feeding frenzy when I drop food into the aquarium.
I’m sure that my fish are a LOT more active as far as swimming goes, with all the water current that is now in the tank. Especially compared to before I started adding water current.
All that activity must make them more healthy, eh? If humans are healthier with more movement and exercise, why not fish?
